Simultaneous Translation

Simultaneous translation for events

Converso designs and manages simultaneous translation services for live events: conferences, trade shows, board meetings, corporate meetings, institutional events. Every setup is different. The operating model stays consistent.

What is simultaneous translation for events

Simultaneous translation enables the audience at an event to follow the content in their own language, in real time. A professional interpreter listens to the speaker and translates simultaneously. The audience receives the translation as audio and, when provided, also as text.

The service applies to different contexts: medical and scientific conferences, shareholder meetings, board meetings, international trade shows, corporate meetings, institutional events, press conferences, multilingual webinars.

Converso doesn't just provide interpreters. It delivers the complete service: signal acquisition, interpreter management, distribution of translated streams to the audience, technical monitoring. Every component is designed to work with the others.

Audio and video inputs

The event content — the speaker's voice, room audio, any video contributions — must reach the interpreters. The acquisition method changes based on the venue, available infrastructure and the event's technical configuration.

Input methods

  • settings_input_hdmiAudio feeds from venue control rooms, via direct mixer connection or Dante/AES67
  • routerRSI Bridge installed on-site for the event, capturing audio/video streams and making them available to interpreters in the cloud
  • domainRSI Bridge already present in permanent venues (conference rooms, auditoriums, convention centers), permanently configured
  • videocamDirect connection to an ongoing videoconference (Zoom, Teams, Webex), when the event is hybrid or fully remote

The input is defined and configured by Converso technicians during pre-production, in coordination with the venue control room and the event's AV service.

Interpreter management

Converso works with professional conference interpreters, selected based on language combination, event sector and required operating mode. Collaboration involves both direct interpreters and specialized partner agencies.

hub

From the RSI Hub

Interpreters work from the Converso RSI Hub in Milan — the operational center with soundproofed booths, physical consoles, video monitoring and dedicated connectivity. Operating conditions are equivalent to an on-site event.

Remote

When needed, interpreters work from their own studio using the Converso Soft Console: a professional software interface designed for simultaneous interpretation work, with language management, relay, audio control and technician communication.

This setup allows coverage of minority languages or language combinations not available locally, optimizing availability and costs.

Translated stream distribution

Translated audio streams from interpreters are distributed based on event requirements. Each channel can be active individually or in combination.

speaker

On-site

Streams are sent to venue control rooms for distribution to the present audience: in-ear for speakers, integration into audio systems, distribution via analog receivers when required.

smartphone

Converso WebApp

The audience accesses the translation via the Converso WebApp: scan a QR code, no installation needed. Multilingual audio and real-time text, on any device.

Multilingual streaming

Translated streams can be integrated into the event's streaming: restream to external platforms, proper composition of audio languages, optional use of the Converso streaming platform.

Technical management and control

The entire simultaneous translation service is managed by MRSI technicians (Managed Remote Simultaneous Interpretation). The RSI Hub in Milan is the system's central hub: inputs, interpreters, distribution and monitoring are all controlled from here.

Infrastructure

  • checkAutomatic backups and cloud components for service continuity
  • checkContinuous monitoring of all streams, with proactive alerts

Connectivity

Simultaneous translation requires a stable and reliable data connection. When the venue's connectivity is unavailable or insufficient, Converso can provide it directly.

  • cell_towerDedicated connectivity for the translation service and interpreters
  • cell_towerNetwork for control rooms and event technicians
  • cell_towerWiFi for guests and audience, when required

Connectivity is an integral part of service success. It is verified during pre-production and monitored throughout the event.

AI and hybrid modes

Simultaneous translation can be performed by human interpreters, AI engines or in hybrid mode. The choice depends on context, languages and budget.

For the end user the experience doesn't change: they receive audio and text in their language, through the same WebApp, the same channels, the same interface. For the organizer and the AV service, the operational flow stays identical.

Where we operate

Converso's operational base is in Milan. Simultaneous translation services are delivered in Milan, across Italy and abroad.

When needed, Converso technicians operate physically on-site at the event venue. Alternatively, the service is managed entirely remotely, connecting to the control rooms and systems of the local service provider.

In both cases, the operating model, service quality and user experience remain unchanged.
